Caravaggio: The Soul and the Blood
Biography Documentary  6.6/10
Released • 2018
A revolutionary artist and therefore often little loved by his contemporaries, Caravaggio turns Italy in search of fortune or perhaps in search of himself, escaping the most desire that has ever happened in his passage. Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples, Sicily, Malta: 5 cities, over 15 places of art and 40 works, among the most famous and representative of Caravaggio's production. The film tells the story of the brilliant and controversial Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi, aka Caravaggio, using the scientific advice of Claudio Strinati and the speeches by Mina Gregori, President of the Foundation of Art History Roberto Longhi and Rossella Vodret, curator of the exhibition "Dentro Caravaggio", at Palazzo Reale in Milan until January 28 2018. The artist's voice is that of Manuel Agnelli, frontman of the rock band Afterhours and famous for his participation as a judge of the talent show X Factor. Filming with active protagonists in the scene, characters of the real and not actors, common people as well as common were the models used by Caravaggio, allowing a direct and empathic relationship with the spectator. A voiceover translates the continuous motion of the moods of the artist, reproducing the nuances of his character and betraying the emotions, often violent, that dwell in him, helping the viewer to get in touch with his soul and his mind. Caravaggio - the Soul and the Blood is an absolutely new and pioneering immersion in the works and soul of Caravaggio, a throbbing film that tells the art of a man whose audacity and genius were torment but momentum towards a glory entrusted to 'eternity.
